Before moving to the San Jose area last October, I hadn’t lived in California for over a decade. I don’t remember it having a monsoon season. Maybe it’s just up north. Maybe this isn’t typical. I don’t know, but the rain is beginning to drive me crazy! I just found out this morning that the reason our home phone has been out of commission for the past four days is due to the weather. Thankfully the line is repaired now, and thankfully (because it was a problem with the phone company’s cable) we won’t be charged the $90 repair fee. And thankfully I have a cell phone :-).
The rain is making me nostalgic for New Orleans, where it actually rains a lot more than it does here. Louisiana is actually far too rainy and humid for my taste, but I did love living there for a short time (3 years), and I do long to go back for a visit. I get particularly nostalgic for good ‘ol N’awlins at Mardi Gras time, and part of Mardi Gras is dealing with the rain at parades! So here’s my shout out post to Fat Tuesday (this coming Tuesday) and the whole Mardi Gras season (which is in full swing down in the Big Easy right now).
One of these days we will take the kids back to NOLA for Mardi Gras. And oh, how I would love to run the Mardi Gras Marathon. But for now, old pictures will have to suffice. More below the fold.
Unfortunately, most of my good Mardi Gras pictures are on old fashioned film. I had not yet fully converted to a digital camera as of February 2005.
Some French Quarter pics, for your viewing pleasure…
