Tuesday night I plopped myself down on the couch, needing to “veg,” and began channel surfing. Much to my delight I happened upon this Symposium on Freedom aired on C-Span, led by Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO). The highlight, I thought, was Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), who articulates well the dangerous threat to freedom imposed by the current administration. I love that she is not afraid to say things as they are, despite the possible consequences imposed by the Left and the press. Last year Bachmann came under heat for daring to call socialism un-American. I am happy to have found myself in good company. I too, came under heat last year for calling socialism un-American. It is un-American. The United States of America was founded on the concepts of individual rights, private property rights, free market principles, and…freedom of the people from an oppressive, too large and too powerful federal government.
These are traditional American principles; these principles are the antithesis of socialism.
We are seeing a vast change occurring now, but that shouldn’t surprise anyone. After all, didn’t the country vote for change? Nobody is disputing that Barack Obama intended to implement change. The crux of the issue is what is he going to change, and how is he going to do it? The change we are seeing take place before our very eyes is a dramatic change toward socialism. Those who do not see it simply do not want to see it. Those who are not afraid of it do not understand the dangers that necessarily come with it. As stated by Rep. Akin,
“The government that can give you anything you want, can also take away anything from you…everything…from you, including your freedom.
“And that’s the great danger of this insidious, creeping bureaucracy where the government inserts itself into all kinds of different businesses. The Founders would have been outraged at [this], and even people from not so many generations before us would say, that is impossible…that could never happen in America.”
Yet it is happening. Right now. Watch the first four minutes of the clip below to hear Michele Bachmann cite a chilling example of how socialism punishes success, vaporizes wealth and tramples private property rights.
Watch the following clip from about 2:10 to 6:40 to hear her further expound on the alarming scenario introduced in the previous clip.
“We need to call this for what this is…call it out. The American people need to get outraged and figure out that it COULD BE THEM NEXT.
“No business is safe when you see the Administration appoint czars…car czars, wage czars…there’s over 20 czars that have been appointed. And what do those czars do? They bypass the congress. We’re the people’s elected representatives. We’ve been bypassed. We now have an imperial presidency, where the President has appointed various czars, [answering] directly to him, and now he’s reaching in to the confines of private businesses and overnight rendering them virtually worthless, unless…unless they have a special tug, a political tie, to a local Democrat congressman. Is that what we’ve come to?” Michele Bachmann
THIS IS SCARY STUFF, PEOPLE.
