a recycling thief regularly strikes in your neighborhood.
Yes, a recycling thief. Here is a picture of our recycle bins last night, before we put them out. Below is a picture of them this morning, after the recycling thief struck and before the authorized recycling truck came by. I first noticed something strange was going on a few months ago, then one morning as I was cooling down from a run I actually saw the recycling thief. He drove a truck pulling a trailer full of recycled goods. When I saw him he was sorting through the bins of a house up the street and around the corner. When I got home I realized that he had already been by our house, our bins emptied of water bottles and other recyclable treasures. I don’t begrudge this man our tin and plastic goodies, after all we put them out to be taken away…it doesn’t really matter who takes them off our hands. I find the man quite clever actually, and find it rather amusing that he has developed a money making operation through the city’s program. It just goes to show though, that the economy really must be in a rut, because this guy never spent his early mornings combing neighborhoods just ahead of the recycling truck before. I wonder if he’ll keep it up once the economy is roaring again?
