So I go to check my email and what do I see? This picture (gag me please) and a link to this AP story, headlined Obama pledges to slash deficit — after increase (I swear I’m going to start dieting and exercising…after I eat this entire box of chocolates and that gallon of ice cream in the freezer; I’m really going to stop buying clothes for me altogether…after I put this $1,000 shopping spree on my credit card). How does he think he has any credibility when talking about fiscal responsibility? Ok, now that I’ve said that, on to the gist of my post…. Can we please quit with the “Obama is our savior” references already? Tell me this picture is not intended to cast Obama in a messianic light! In the beginning it was so ridiculous that it was almost funny, but I am becoming truly disgusted.
There is a CULT OF PERSONALITY going on here and it is astounding to observe. From Wikipedia:
“A cult of personality or personality cult arises when a country’s leader uses mass media to create a heroic public image through unquestioning flattery and praise. Cults of personality are often found in dictatorships.
A cult of personality is similar to general hero worship, except that it is created specifically for political leaders. However, the term may be applied by analogy to refer to adulation of religious or non-political leaders.
Generally, personality cults are most common in regimes with totalitarian systems of government, that seek to radically alter or transform society according to (supposedly) revolutionary new ideas. Often, a single leader becomes associated with this revolutionary transformation, and comes to be treated as a benevolent “guide” for the nation, without whom the transformation to a better future cannot occur. This has been generally the justification for personality cults that arose in totalitarian societies of the 20th century, such as those of Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler.”
Now before someone accuses me of comparing Barack Obama to Hitler or Stalin, let me just say that no, I don’t believe Obama intends to commit mass murder to further his political aims. But I do believe that Obama sets himself up as a hero or savior type who can alone inspire hope and bring about change in troubled times. And he has indeed created a following of mind numb sycophants who care not, and in many cases even know not, the principles he espouses. There are plenty of hard-core leftists who laud Obama for what he truly is: an instigator of socialism. But many of his supporters don’t seem to know what he stands for or what his aims are, beyond the shallow slogans of “hope,” “change,” “unity” and so forth; these people are followers of Obama, the person, regardless of what he actually has done or intends to do. Obama is setting himself up in this way, and the mainstream media is bolstering him in it. It is as if he can do no wrong. To the casual observer it may seem that Obama truly has wrought change and unity already, for we don’t hear the constant berating of everything Obama on the major networks 24/7. But that’s not because he’s the near perfect president he is held up to be; it is because the coverage is selective…the mainstream media loves Obama and hates Bush. No wonder the coverage is so peaceful and happy.
Do you recall any president before this one becoming the pop culture icon that is Barack Obama? His picture is everywhere! Bush supporters didn’t generally plaster their walls with his face or make anything like Obamicons of themselves. Nor did they have fainting spells in his presence, or refer to him as “the Messiah.” Nor did they profess their “love” for the president or dream about sleeping with him. They supported Bush’s agenda, his policies…agreed with his ideology. They were not obsessed with his person. And when he was wrong, they in large part called him out on it. The hope that Obama’s minions have is in him, not in his ideas, for his ideas are nothing new…they are the tired and recycled professions of socialism.
In our school district it was mandated that every classroom, K-12, watch Obama’s inauguration on T.V…and that no criticism would be permitted. Before you say, “But this was history in the making!” please consider that every time a president is sworn in it is history in the making, and that the district has never before in its history had such a policy. Also, at the elementary school where a friend of mine teaches there is a huge one of these hanging in the foyer (no one, including all faculty and students, knew that their picture was going to be used for this purpose).
Obama signed his first major legislation all alone:
“Down [through] history every president has had and invited members from congress and the senate to participate in the signing of important legislation. And one would think that the biggest Stimulus bill ever passed in the house and senate would be very historical. But not Obama, he signed the bill all-alone. [Does] Obama want everyone to think he is [their] savior, he and he alone is the man who saved America, or could it be that no congressman or senator wanted to be anywhere near this total piece of junk when it was being signed into law?
Do you remember how Obama rushed his family off the stage before proceeding to give his acceptance speech all alone on election night? Here’s a summary of a conversation had between Evan Thomas, Jon Meacham, and Charlie Rose about this oddity:
“Meacham stated that he was ‘very struck watching the stagecraft’ of Obama and pointed out how Obama gave his victory speech by himself: ‘…[H]ave you ever seen a victory speech where there was no one else on stage? No adoring wife, no cute kid — he is the message.’ Thomas went one step further in this vein: ‘There is a slightly creepy cult of personality about all of this.’ Rose confronted him on his use of this phrase, and he explained that it made him ‘a little uneasy that he’s so singular. He’s clearly managing his own spectacle. He knows how to do it. He’s a — I think, a deeply manipulative guy…’ Later, all three marveled about how it was ‘amazing’ that Obama ‘watches us watching him.’ “
